Both David and John pay homage to their late mother and grandmother, Helen Nisbet, who started Ranch Market in the 1950s and enjoyed a very successful 40-plus year career. Attending Stanford University at age 15, graduating at 19, and having gone through and survived the Great Depression, she knew a great investment when she saw one: The Nisbet family bought their first ranch near Sisterdale in 1952. She sold Texas Hill Country ranches through the 1950’s when they were for sale for around $35-$90 per acre, through the 1970’s when they were for sale for $600-$800 per acre and through to 2000, active until the very end.
